Food Focused

December 7, 2010

I love food. Over the past year my love for food has increased, and I have spent more time than ever cooking, baking, and reading about food. This past summer my life was changed for the better by my experience working at Groundswell farm.  I began to read food blogs, and cook with friends who knew what they were doing.  Suddenly I found a regular use for kale and squash and the CSA items  that last year I had no clue how to use up. I also feel passionate about trying to live a healthy life. Eating healthy, exercising, being outside, walking to work, walking to the farmers market and eating local and organic. I am by no means an expert, but I would like to consider this blog my exploration of combining these two passions of food and health, and seeing where in life they lead me next.

Sunday Sailing

June 23, 2010

My mom, pictured here on the left, and Bob took us sailing last weekend on their brand new boat. They inspired all of us young folk by their passion to follow their dreams. They both love sailing, and recently they sold their house, bought a boat and are opening a charter business. So if you like to sail check out Sailing the Sunset. They live over on the east side of the state and are currently sailing around Michigan back to their home base on Lake St. Clair.

They laughed with/at me when I insisted we have a picture session for the sisterhood of the traveling panties on the boat. (clean minds people- we wear them on the OUTSIDE of our clothes) Mom, always up for adventure had them on first and it took Bob about 1 hour to notice anything had changed.

Sign me up.

This makes me hungry

June 7, 2010

The one think I can always indulge in… Cookie dough. Besides my few food weaknesses, (and cookie dough is probably the biggest) I love eating healthy. I love helping other people eat healthy too. I have a summer goal of becoming a better cook. To accomplish this goal I am looking for inspiration.

I have been loving looking through recipes on food Blogs. I love food photography. I love anything fresh, veggies, summer, fruit, farmers market, outside, enjoy life, glass of wine, tomatoes, homemade salsa and homemade bread. Here’s some I have been looking at lately.

My New Roots

What are some of your favorite recipe sites and food blogs? Where should I turn when I come home from our CSA with a vegetable that I have never seen before and I am wondering what to do with it?

Acumen Fund

June 6, 2010

I spent my morning watching TED videos. Starting with this one featuring Jacqueline Novogratz whose book The Blue Sweater I loved.

Now I am Exploring the Acumen Fund Website.

Using the compassion of philanthropy and the rigor of the marketplace, Acumen Fund brings together the best of business and charity. We invest patient capital to identify, strengthen, and scale transformative businesses with the aim of effectively serving millions—and someday billions—of the world’s poorest.

I am in love with reading about International Development issues and would love any suggestions for books, schools, or resources. Thanks!

Committed.

March 29, 2010

Last year I read the book Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I hear they are currently making it into a Movie staring Julie Roberts. Italy India and Indonesia, all places I would love to Travel. Must see movie to begin dreaming and scheming of the next trip.

I am Currently reading Committed, her lasted book, about making peace with Marriage. It’s been very insightful so far. As someone who at one point “never wanted to get married” and now is married at the young age of 26, I feel I could have a lot to learn.
